I'm not sure which party to blame for this but I kind of think the "family values" conservatives who bend over backwards to the corporate world might be behind the fact that we are pretty much the only country in the world that does not guarantee paid medical leave for women after the birth of their child. This is kind of sickening really. But not all that shocking. Our politics are so beyond broken it's a surprise we even got the unpaid medical leave passed during the Clinton years.
Oh and there's also this, if you're not a pregnant woman, just a person who holds a job who happens to get sick.
It's us, India, Syria, Chad, and a small handful of others making people choose between getting paid and staying home when they're sick.
If women want equal pay for equal jobs, we can't be paying them for months after birth. The work has to get done by somebody.
You should get a day off. Then get back to work.
