Without really thinking about it, I plugged the address for the Wellmont in Montclair, NJ, into my iPhone 4s with the new i06 operating system mapping program and took off north for the concert. Admittedly I don't think I really followed the directions early on, we were talking and I'd been there before and I just figured it would be off the Turnpike or Parkway because pretty much everywhere in North Jersey is connected to one of those two roads so I was on the Turnpike and we were busy talking and I didn't really think much about the new iPhone Mapping Program's notorious inability to actually give good directions, at least in the very limited few weeks since its release. Anyway, I believe the program took me off Exit 15 to Route 280, which led us right smack into the middle of traffic and then, before long, we seemed to be on an exit to hell aka the Parkway in Newark, which was just a clusterfuck of cars that I vaguely remembered from when I went to school in Newark but somehow we continued and the traffic got worse but the iPhone promised an exit so I stuck with it and it took me off right in the heart of, well, not the nicest area of Newark by far, where it seemed to want me to turn around, go back, and get right back on the road (the Parkway, I think) I just got off. At which point I thought, what the fuck? We pulled over, Jackie fished for the Garmin buried in my console because I haven't used it much since I bought the iPhone, preferring a combination of Google Maps (which isn't on this phone anymore, thanks Apple!) and a GPS program I bought for like $10. I loaded that up and it told me to get back on the Parkway, then take the very next exit, make a U-turn in the ghetto and get back on the Parkway going the opposite direction. I was so confused by now that I refused to get back on the Parkway and the Garmin finally got going but it was saying Parkway too, and the opposite direction was North, which is to be expected, but why in the hell was the iPhone taking me south?!? and why the fuck were there so many goddamned cars on the Parkway in Newark?!! For fuck's sake. Anyway, I ignored the Garmin and all my shitty mapping programs and drove along parallel to the Parkway for a couple miles until the traffic cleared (yay!) and then a mile later I got off an exit and we were in Montclair. I don't think I've ever had a negative experience with my iPhone before, but yeah, if you haven't downloaded the new i06, don't, and if you haven't used the new mapping program, don't. Just figure out how to get Google Maps back. And tell me.
Oh. We saw M83. And they were awesome.
