Song: "Jack Names the Planets"
Artist: Ash
Album: Trailer
Year: 1995
It's been a while since I had a Random Music Friday but I figured now was a good time as any -- when I was perusing my local concert schedules for the coming months I stumbled upon "Ash" and I was shocked as hell were still around. I don't have the energy to take 3 seconds and check out their Wikipedia entry (but you are welcome to, I ain't getting paid for this shit I mean come on, you're getting 3 to 4 days of new content every week which may or may not be interesting content but it's content and it takes time and I realize I took longer to write this sentence then it would have taken to Wiki the band but that's not the point -- it's the freakin' principle of it! which at this point, I don't know what the hell my point was. Anyway, I digress). So Ash put out my favorite song of 1996 -- a song called "Goldfinger" off an album called 1977 and named after the band's love of Star Wars, but apparently not James Bond movies, and they had released their debut Trailer a year earlier, when they were still teens I believe. And for a brief moment in the mid-90s I really liked the Scottish band's music -- both albums were regulars on my playlist -- and I figured they would turn into one of my all-time favorites, having done so much as such a young age. Alas, as they got older their musical tastes changed and their style went towards a glam-rock or heavy metal-influenced route that I didn't care for and I quickly lost interest in them and wondered whatever happened to the band that could make such a pop gem as "Goldfinger" and then disappear. Or "Jack Names the Planets," my favorite from their debut, which just as shockingly as seeing them still touring, holds up to this day. So I am glad to see they are still around, still making music. And I wonder if songs like these ever pop up on their playlists. Enjoy your Friday and thanks for reading.
