UK music magazine NME printed a "Greatest Songs of the '80s" list, which you can see reprinted here by Stereogum, and as a purveyor and endorser of lists great and small, I was fairly intrigued. Particularly since I'm embarrassed to say, I was a teenager in the '80s consuming all these songs. Well, I'm not embarrassed by the songs on the list, rather the fact that I'm so old to have been a teen in the '80s. But I digress. The list has some surprising -- and brilliant -- inclusions such as "April Skies" at #15 (what?!) that track closely with my love for many of these artists who didn't get on my radar until the very end of the decade. It also has some shocking inclusions that make me wonder if the same person selecting "April Skies" was also selecting #17 on the list or whether this was an "average of votes" type of thing because it doesn't seem at all possible that both could be true. Anyway, it is rather nice to see many of the songs from the Vague Space Top 200 of All-Time also appear on the NME list, including #2s and 3. Here's a list of some of the tracks with my commentary. Again, go to Stereogum for the NME list.
94. Starship – “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” -- yeah, here's where the list kind of loses all credibility
76. Simple Minds – “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” -- sadly stuck in The Breakfast Club in my memories
71. Queen & David Bowie – “Under Pressure” -- OK song
70. Talking Heads – “Road To Nowhere” - great song
68. Sonic Youth – “Teen Age Riot” -- #5 on the Vague Space list all time (#1 of the '80s)
66. U2 – “With Or Without You” - my favorite song of 1987 when I looooooved U2 (a time that has passed)
64. Nirvana – “About A Girl” -- decent song but probably only here because it's like the only Nirvana song from the '80s
63. Depeche Mode – “Never Let Me Down Again” -- great song
61. The Waterboys – “Whole Of The Moon” -- great song
57. Psychedelic Furs – “Pretty In Pink” -- just missed my all time chart, would have made it for '80s only
53. The Cure – “Just Like Heaven” -- in my top 5 all time if I made the list 20 years ago
49. My Bloody Valentine – “You Made Me Realise” -- great song
46. Pixies – “Monkey Gone To Heaven” -- great fucking song
44. Morrissey – “Everyday Is Like Sunday” -- #186 on my list
39. Echo And The Bunnymen – “The Killing Moon” -- great fucking song
36. R.E.M. – “The One I Love” -- one of my least favorite REM "hits"
34. The Smiths – “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out” -- #68 on my list
31. New Order – “Temptation” -- great fucking song, used to be my favorite New Order song back in the day, didn't make my list but easily in my top 100 of the '80s
29. The Jam – “That’s Entertainment” -- great fucking song
27. The Pogues – “Fairytale Of New York” -- my favorite Xmas song ever...
24. The Jesus And Mary Chain – “Just Like Honey” -- #82 on my list
22. Dinosaur Jr – “Freak Scene” - #189 on my list
19. Joy Division – “Atmosphere” - #54 on my list
18. Michael Jackson – “Billie Jean” -- I would agree that it's Michael Jackson's greatest, but I'm not a real fan of his
17. Bon Jovi – “Livin’ On A Prayer” -- really? no, seriously -- really?
16. Pixies – “Debaser” -- yay! but not on the Vague Space list
14. The Smiths – “This Charming Man” -- yay! but not on the Vague Space list.
13. The Jesus And Mary Chain – “April Skies” -- yay! but just missed the Vague Space list, would definitely make a top 100 of the '80s... this is starting to sound like a future post...
-
and the world comes tumbling down... shit this is a great song -- why is it not on my list?
10. Eric B. & Rakim – “Paid In Full” -- I do not know this song...
09. New Order – “Bizarre Love Triangle” -- see #8
08. The Cure – “In Between Days” -- great song, probably on Vague Space lists until recently crowded out by all songs Spencer
07. Neneh Cherry – “Buffalo Stance” -- I do not remember this song fondly
06. Prince – “When Doves Cry” -- might be one of my favorite Prince songs but yeah, it's not close to my lists
05. The Specials – “Ghost Town” -- I do not know this song...
04. Talking Heads – “Once In A Lifetime” -- not on my list but a great song, although there are a few Talking Heads songs I'd prefer to see (And She Was, Nothing But Flowers, Psycho Killer -- unless that was '70s?)
03. The Smiths – “How Soon Is Now” -- #49 on my list
02. Joy Division – “Love Will Tear Us Apart” -- #6 on Vague Space list (and #2 among '80s tracks)
01. New Order – “Blue Monday” -- not on the Vague Space list but a quality song (although not one of my favorites of New Order, who are second only to The Smiths as my favorite '80s band)
We actually only had 8 songs that matched, but I'm not sure how many '80s tracks I have on my list.... probably under 30 so that's a decent amount. Anyway, thanks for strolling down memory lane with me.
DVD AND BLU-RAY is definitely an optical disk storage space structure, created as well as produced by Philips, Sony, Toshiba, as well as Panasonic within 1995. Dvd disks provide United States of Tara Seasons 1-3 DVD greater storage space capability compared to Cds with exactly the same measurements.

There are pieces of all their abmlus post-Satellite that I enjoy but not as much as a whole as Satellite. However I do realize it has been 10 years since that album released and it's time to move on, time to create something new and celebrate progress. I think the band has had a little time off to think about things and maybe they can come back strong now with new music. This song certainly has me interested in what's to come. A whole lot better than that buzzkill of a Blink 182 song everyone was hyped up for, including myself. After several listens to that song, it just isn't that great.

I stopped pianyg attention after buying the self-titled and not really being all that into it, but as my tastes continue to move back and forth and their style continues to evolve and change, I think me and POD are back on the same page for their next record, which really excites me. Can't wait to hear more.
