Ok, I know it's not Tuesday but this got pre-empted by my Tour de France coverage yesterday, so here it is one day late...
Jonsi and Alex are releasing their first album of ambient/instrumental rock July 21st on XL Recordings in North America, titled Riceboy Sleeps. You can get a download of a song from the album by putting in your email address at their website (or below). "Riceboy Sleeps" was the original name of the band formed by Sigur Ros frontman Jonsi Birgisson and his partner Alex Somers, but they've chosen to rename themselves Jonsi and Alex for the album release. The song I received through email is "Boy 1904" but the song I'm providing below appeared on the Dark Was the Night compilation in the spring and is quite representative. Check it out.
Scott Kannberg, aka Spiral Stairs, aka the key member of Pavement not named Stephen Malkmus, aka one half of my 2nd favorite band of all-time, is releasing his first solo album on his own name (or fake name) this fall on Matador. He had two releases as Preston School of Industry, but I wasn't really a fan of those, so here's hoping this version of Kannberg's music is better. And of course, we'll all keep praying for Pavement to get back together.
Spoon recently released a new single to tide us over before their next album release.
Mt. Eerie has a new track available off its upcoming release, courtesy of Stereogum, which describes the new album as closest to a sequel to The Glow, Pt. 2 yet. Let's hope so.
Japandroids are neither Japanese nor droids but are in fact two white guys from Vancouver, BC, who happen to make some pretty loud, catchy rock music. The new album is titled Post-Nothing.
Fleet Foxes sung a new song at Glastonbury that is recorded here. Here's hoping a new album is in the works for the band that lit up last year's indie charts.
And finally, everybody's been talking about the Dirty Projectors album Bitte Orca, but I have to admit that I can't quite appreciate its charms. The following is the final track on the album and is pretty decent.
Thanks for the link for Mariah Carey's new album. Maybe I'll buy that since you endorse it.
