I remember some time ago, I used to regularly use Last FM, which tracks all the songs playing on your computer and helps make suggestions of new songs and bands through neighbors and friends who listen to similar music. But I found that their tracking wasn't perfect enough and I lost the latest version or something and I just went back tonight and saw that I hadn't had a track recorded on the service since 2005. As impressive as it was for the site to still have my information four years later, including the last song I'd played then (Broken Social Scene's "It's All Gonna Break"), even more impressive is the upgrades to the site that can make your listening experience even more enjoyable now than 4 years ago. They now download directly from iTunes, so that the playlist is the same, and now I can get a whole shitload of info about the bands that I don't get from iTunes -- like the fact that Balmorhea is playing in June in Philly, or that Frog Eyes fits closely with the music I like. I mean, I knew the latter point, but I'm still exploring and there's just a ton of useful info and cool stuff. So if like me you stopped using the site some time ago -- or haven't ever used it, check out my profile on there at least. There you can see the most played bands by yours truly for 2009.... (shocker to see who's #1, isn't it?)
