Here's Sunset Rubdown's clever preview/teaser of "Paper Lace," one of the tracks from the forthcoming Dragonslayer, due June 23 on Jagjaguwar (and not yet leaked!). I have been checking the Wolf Parade forums at least daily for word on the leak and I really don't think I've anticipated an album from any band ever as much as I'm awaiting Dragonslayer. I just received my tickets to the June 13th show at Johnny Brenda's in Philly (woo hoo!) And I might be going on June 12th in Brooklyn as well. Music really doesn't get any better than this.
It's crazy that "Paper Lace" is used in the teaser, because (a) the Swan Lake version the song was in my head yesterday, after I had dinner with my friends Jackie and Rebecca (see lyrics below), so (b) I wrote the lyrics down in my writing notebook, (c) half the discussion in writing class was about song lyrics, and (d) it was Spencer's birthday yesterday (happy birthday, Spencer! -- he's the singer for both bands, in case you didn't know). I think I'm officially obsessed.
Come be a wild thing
Come run with Jackie, me, and this lady.
The stupid house you made
Fell away like paper lace
Come run with Jackie, me, and this lady.
And when you're done crying to everyone,
You can go back to your good home.
She will be tired, but she'll be glad
When you go back to your good home.
And paper burns and paper fades
And paper crumbles into ugly shapes
Come run with Jackie, me, and this lady.
But for now, until you're home.
You ride with us.
There was no way you could have known
About the things she didn't know she couldn't trust...
Oh, what's in the world? What's in the world?
What's in the hearts of pretty girls?
There's nothing left inside the room
You filled with lion skins and laurels
Those were good ideas
But they weren't diamonds and pearls!

It's a good obsession to have. I just wish the band would tour Australia.

I'm sorry, I can't help you there. You'll have to plan another trip to the States to coincide with a SR tour!

Well, let's make that obsession three! The live version I have heard sounds very similar to the teaser and I like it better than the Swan Lake version. From the sounds of this teaser and "Idiot Heart" Spencer is staying true to that live feel he has been talking about and they almost sound like demos. But I like the loose rock feel they are going for. CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS ALBUM!!!
Sorry Wayne, I wish they would tour Australia too so that you could see them. I am going to have to drive to Austin this summer since they aren't coming to Dallas but I guess I have nothing to complain about.
