A Look Ahead
2007 has proven to be an incredible year in the world of indie rock music as nearly every week has seen an amazing new release. I've probably bought more albums this year than any year well, maybe ever, and have seen some wonderful surprises (Armchair Apocrypha, You, You're a History in Rust, Tears of the Valedictorian), some expected delights (We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank, All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone, Neon Bible, Boxer), some mild disappointments (Some Loud Thunder, Cassadaga, Dumb Luck, Drums and Guns), some major disappointments (A Weekend in the City, Sound of Silver, Do You Trust Your Friends?) and some outright brilliance (Plague Park). A full summary of my favorite albums and songs of the year to date will be presented in the coming week, but I just wanted to discuss how many more amazing albums are expected in the 2nd half of this year. Here they are, in expected release date order.
- Feist - The Reminder
- Okay, this one's out already, but I was never a Feist fan so I only bought the album this week and I have to say I'm surprisingly impressed. The following is my favorite track.
- Art Brut - It's a Bit Complicated

- Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga

- Okkervil River - The Stage Names
- Releasing on August 7th (and definitely by far my most anticipated summer album release - but why only 9 tracks? I need more Will Sheff than that!!!)
- Here's the tracklist

- Releasing on September 25th (SubPop) - a big date for releases apparently
- Sunset Rubdown - Random Spirit Lover
- Releasing sometime in October?
- Tentative tracklist has 12 songs from the brilliant mind of Spencer Krug, including an album version of "Winged/Wicked Things" - from 2006's Daytrotter Sessions that ended up as my #4 song of the year last year. Could it be top 5 for 2 years in a row? Is that allowed?
- Wolf Parade (combining Sunset Rubdown and Handsome Furs into one tidy package) are also expected to have a release later this year, but nothing is confirmed just yet. Beirut might also have a new release out in September. And maybe a new Radiohead as well. Keep your fingers crossed.
- And you'll notice no Icky Thump on the list. I love indie rock and (some) alternative music, but I can't really even stand The White Stripes. Sorry.
Here's the Rilo Kiley new album's track list:
1. "Silver Lining"
2. "Close Call"
3. "The Moneymaker"
4. "Breakin' Up"
5. "Under The Blacklight"
6. "Dreamworld"
7. "Dejalo"
8. "15"
9. "Smoke Detector"
10. "The Angels Hung Around"
11. "Give A Little Love"
