The title of this post has been the working title of the novel I've been writing since September, and I am pleased to announce that as of last week, "Five Day Morning" is complete, or at least the first draft is. I call it the working title, because I fully intended to change it and yet I haven't really spent much time thinking of an alternative, so perhaps it is here to stay. The name comes from a song by The Clientele that I heard on Sirius Left of Center last summer that was truly the inspiration for the story. I'd been kicking around the general idea of the plot for some time, but it wasn't until seeing the song's title that the story truly crystallized (not the lyrics, which have nothing to do with anything discernible, at least not in my novel, nor the song or band, which I rather dislike - but download it anyway!).
I'm not going to give out any significant plot details - it's still in the "first draft" stage, which means a whole lot needs to be done to turn it into something publishable - but I can say in answer to the most frequent question about my publishing aspirations, no, it is not a mystery. It does take place over five days (hence the title), and the rest of the title is also quite an apt description of the story. The most I can say about it is that the title of this Arcade Fire track below, off of their 2001 demos set and not actually an official track, is very, very relevant. As is the Pavement song. Oh, and it's 308 pages (which, according to Stephen King, should drop by 10% on the rewrite - "no needless words!")

P.S. If I ever do get it published, I will be pimping it on this site relentlessly and all you bastards better buy it. I really don't care if you read it. Go Derek Zumsteg!
Knee-grows can't read books anyway.
