In honor of my discovery (thanks JR) of three new Canadian based stations now on Sirius, including something called CBC Radio 3 on Sirius 94 - which plays an eclectic and wonderful collection of mostly Canadian indie rock bands - I'm providing some Canadian indie rock bands' songs. Oh, and I just found my blog is included as a link on the really cool mp3 blog Oceans Never Listen, but in case you don't know what the titles are referring to, take a gander at one of the two versions of Sunset Rubdown's amazing "Shut Up I Am Dreaming of Places Where Lovers Have Wings." Viva la Canada!

Yo ho! The distant shore!
Yo ho! The distant shore!
Oceans never listen to us anyway,
Oceans never listen to us anyway.
And if I fall into the drink,
I will say your name, before I sink.
He says your name out loud;
At miniature rooms where no one’s found;
It’s a desperate sound.
Yo ho! The distant shore!
He stands his feet down
You hear his knuckles on your door.
He wants to send you drawings
Drawings of men with faithful hands
They will make such good boyfriends
He wants to tell you stories
Stories of boys who stomped their feet saying,
“Shut – shut up I am dreaming of places
Where lovers have wings.”
“I’ll meet you where the river forks;
When everyone else is dead
You’ll be safe on the water
We’ll be much younger than we remember.
Yo ho! The distant shore!
I send my feet down—
Down do you hear knuckles
On your door. Do you understand
What I’m pining for? Oh,
Oceans never listen to us anyway.
Oceans never listen to us anyway.
And if I fall into the drink,
I will say your name, before I sink.
Oceans never listen to us anyway.
I’m afraid of the water;
I’m afraid of the sky.
I’m tired of waiting.
Oceans never listen to us anyway,
Oceans never listen to us anyway.
And if I fall into the drink,
I will say your name, before I sink.
Oceans never listen to us anyway.
So… don’t make a sound.
Don’t make a sound.
The live version of Shut Up... just blew my mind, It sounds even better then the original. thanks for the mention, btw.

Their version of "They Took a Vote and Said No" is better than on the album, in my opinion, and the two unreleased tracks, "Winged/Wicked Things" and "Jason, Believe Me You Can't Trust your Dreams" are excellent. "Winged/Wicked Things" was my #4 song of 2006. Did I mention how much I love Spencer Krug these days? Let's just move on.

You should also check out Sirius 30 - The Coffee House. I love to listen to it on Sat. and Sun. mornings. Very relaxing acoustic type stuff.
Around noon I'll switch to something more upbeat.
